According to The Daily Mail, Dr. Edgar Mitchell says that aliens have visited earth several times. In an interview with Kerrang! radio, he said, “It’s been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it’s leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it. ‘I’ve been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes - we have been visited. Reading the papers recently, it’s been happening quite a bit.”
I looked up his website and found he has written some really interesting articles on consciousness, psychic ability, telepathy, space, and evolution. There is also a discussion forum on UFOs and aliens on his website, though he has not posted to it. Though his statements on aliens in the Kerrang! interview sound like the crazy ramblings of an old man, his articles show a really interesting and intelligent mind looking beyond hard science and trying to understand the meaning of consciousness, and of life itself. Several other astronauts have asked the same questions, speaking out about UFOs, or writing science fiction to explore these ideas- something that, in many ways, seems perfectly natural for people who are obviously adventurous, curious, and pioneering.
