Philadelphia Weekend Picks!

June 27th, 2008 by Labuda · 1 Comment

I don’t know what the hell has been wrong with me lately. I’ve been soooooo damn tired. This weekend I just want to sleep but I know that I won’t be able to…there’s too many things to do.

FRIDAY

Mission of Burma are playing their entire 1981 EP, Signals, Calls and Marches live at the First Unitarian ChurchVersus are back and are opening the show. MoB’s 1st full length record is called Vs. Clever, clever.  All Ages. 8:30pm. $18.

Duck down! Sean Price of the Boot Camp Clik is at the Khyber with Cymarshall Law, MAGr., and Nico The Beast. 9pm. $12.

The legendary Silver Apples are playing the North Star Bar with Loto Ball Show, and Asteroid #4.  Weird. 9pm. $12.

Click is back at Fluid and it’s going to be completely and totally off the chain with  DJs Julian S. Process & Dave P with super special guest Laid Back Luke. YES! Laid. Back. Luke. You need to hit this up and get all sweaty. 10pm-2am. $5.

SATURDAY

Start your day at The Starlight Ballroom for the Punk Rock Flea Market. Buy punk rock related junk that other punks don’t want any more. The Gervasi brothers have a table so hopefully you can buy a Matter Of Fact demo and an old issue of No Longer A Fanzine. All Ages. 10am start.

Yes! In what is probably my favorite event of the weekend, I give you Paine’s World - a benefit for the Paine’s Skate Park. It takes place at the Urban Outfitters HQ in the Naval Yard and it features artists Adam Wallacavage, Shepard Fairey, Andrew Jeffrey Wright and more -  with music from the RockTits DJs, Broadzilla DJs, Yah Mos Def, Eymnd and maybe more. Plus, there is  a pro skate demo, food, drinks and other stuff. You gots to be 21 and on the guest list to attend. 9pm-1am. $22 or $20 if purchased at Urban Outfitters in University City. Get on the guest list here.

Festival Pier has a killer outside concert (I think it’s actually a fest that is happening all weekend long) with The Paul Green School of Rock Music Festival Presents Devo, The Hold Steady, and some other bands. All Ages. 12pm. $37.50/$40.

The recently engaged/always awesome Sara Sherr presents another awesome edition of Sugartown at Tritone. This one is a benefit for Girls Rock Philly with The Rarebirds, The Novenas, and Girls About Town DJs. 10pm.

Live Forever is back at The Barbary with DJ’s JHN RDN, Designer Drugs, and Club Lifestyle. 10pm. $5.

Bleached Black is back at Medusa Lounge with special guest DJ Joe Lentini. 10pm-2am. Free.

Paperstreet and Housing Project present Mojito at the Moshulu (that’s a boat, holmes!) with Alex Alvarz, Dirty, and Brendan Bring’Em. 10:30pm-2am. $10 on the list, $15 not on guest list.

SUNDAY

It’s summertime. It’s hot as hell. You need some heavy boogie rock action. Head to Johnny Brenda’s for the No Quarter Records record release party for the new Endless Boogie longplayer. Rounding out the bill are Jack Rose and Pontiak. Trust me, the new EB record is a rager. 8pm. $8/$10.
