Oh man. I kinda feel guilty even posting this but it’s an interesting trainwreck to watch. The other night on HBO’s Costas Now, Bob had a roundtable discussion with Buzz Bissinger - the award winning author (Friday Night Lights) and former reporter for the Chicago Tribune and the Philadelphia Inquirer and Deadspin.com founder/editor/blogger Will Leitch and Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl wide reciever Braylon Edwards about sports blogs.
Bissinger doesn’t like blogs and he makes that clear just a few minutes in when he rips into Leitch calling him “full of shit” and saying that “blogs are dedicated to cruelty, journalistic dishonesty and speed…” It just gets better/worse after that (kinda NSFW). I honestly feel like Mr. Bissinger makes some valid points. Unfortunately, he comes across like a grumpy old man and his cuss-word laced tired doesn’t really help his claim that blogs are profane and cruel.

-Blogs are meant for fun…not to be taken too seriouslyand yes, speed is probably the most attractive aspect.
-one athlete’s got it down (And He Actually Control the Blog)…Agent-007’s blog is very humorous, tongue-in-cheek, up to date, and informative.

What I find preposterous about this whole “debacle” is that Bissinger sees Journalism as a shining beacon of all that is Good And Just In Society, completely overlooking/forgetting/whatevs the generations of gatekeeping and agenda setting papers and journalists have perpetuated themselves.
Also, Bissinger can STFU until he puts out something 1/438576th as good as Friday Night Lights again.
