A new ” X-Files 2: I Want To Believe” production photo was released today, and it’s got the fans talking! Only click through if you want the movie spoiled for you (unless it’s just a big misinformation campaign).

We all know that the X-Files hinges on the sexual tension between Mulder and Skully. There have been a ton of almost-kisses on the show, and Chris Carter thrives on teasing audiences about this. Even when they had a baby together, it wasn’t simple. Mulder ran off, things got complicated, and the show didn’t end on a happily-ever-after with the Mulder & Skully family. So it makes sense that this, the #1 thing that kept tension in the show going year after year, will be capitalized upon when they are trying to drum up hype for a new movie based on a tv show that has been dead for years.

Chris Carter has coyly avoided any questions about the relationship between Mulder and Skully in the years between the end of the tv series and beginning of the upcoming movie. Apparently they have “been texting” and any questions about Skully’s child will likely remain unanswered in the film. That has led us all to believe that the movie will pretty much pretend that nothing happened between Mulder and Skully and that they are appearing in the movie in a strictly professional capacity.

However, a while back, a blogger took the following photos and caused a big ruckus with fans.

It was widely believed that it was a joke, and that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were just messing with everyone. However, this still was released today.

Is Chris Carter in on the joke now? Or are Mulder and Skully still in love? Either way, we have to wait until July 25th to find out.
