Live action roleplaying hurts

The LARP I went to this weekend is an Asian-themed game, a kind of mashup of Eastern fantasy elements, with Samurai and Ninjas and dragons and demons. It’s really fun, and it’s nice to get away from the Tolkienesque fantasy cliches found so often in gaming. I tried to take pictures for you guys, but it’s hard to remember to bring a camera and stop and take pictures when you’re playing. So please excuse my bad photography skills and feel free to ask any questions you may have in the comments.

Two Samurai go up against each other.

This was actually part of a really big fight in the field, there were about 30 people there, but I couldn’t get a good wide shot.

The dead scatter the field.

There are a lot of monks in the game. This one teaches calligraphy and the “celestial language” which is a complete language (with grammar and everything!) that he made up just for the game.

A pirate guards his treasure. I was dressed up as a pirate too when I took this picture. We were waiting for a bunch of Samurai to come try and steal it from us.

I also got to play a barbarian, a tortured soul (twice), a monk, and a few samurai.

The stupidest thing that happened all weekend was that I fell down a set of stairs TWICE! The first time was on Friday, I busted both elbows, one is really bruised and scabby and the other isn’t, but still kinda hurts. Then on Saturday I guess I hadn’t learned my lesson yet, and I fell down the same steps and landed really hard on my lower back/ butt. I couldn’t get up for a few minutes because it hurt so bad. Now I have the most gnarly black and blue bruise the size of a hand. Then my boyfriend decided to one-up me, and he fell and popped/sprained his ankle and has been hobbling around in pain ever since. Needless to say, we are both pretty miserable right now, but we still had lots of fun!
