I think that I love springtime more than any other time of the year. It’s not cold anymore but it’s not so hot that you want to die. This is probably going to be the first weekend where the weather is warm and the sky is sunny. Get out there and shake those winter blues off.
FRIDAY
I don’t really like ranking events by importance but sometimes you can’t help it, y’know? In terms of importance, I’m ranking Heartworks: Nightvisions pretty high. HeartWorks is a major group exhibition of more than 70 contemporary artists but it’s more than that - it’s also a benefit for The Mazzoni Center, a health center focused on the specific needs of the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. Friday nights show at Johnny Brenda’s mixes art and music and it’s featuring Gang Gang Dance, Professor Murder, Tree Wave, Meg Baird, Douglas Armour, Chad Brown, Kellie Marie, Martin & David, Jones, Cory Archangel, the Megawords guys and probably some more people that I’m missing. 8pm. $20. More info about all the Heartworks events here.

My homeboy Gordon Bombay and his AndDimSum crew are back Upstairs at the Khyber for their Spin the Bottle party. Mr. Bombay, M Dot, and Mandip on the mix all night long. 9pm. Free.
Fluid has Click with your residents Julian S.Prcss and Dave P. 10pm-2am. Free before midnight. $5 after.
Raging D-beat punx Disfear are playing at the U.Church with Parasytic, DisSystema, and Javelina. This show is going to rule. The last time they played Philly, Jeff Ziga poured a pitcher of beer over my head. Get psyched! All Ages. 7:30pm. $10.

Medusa has Robotique with the selectors Mike Tee & Billy W. bringing you Philadelphia’s premiere disco party. Serious drink specials for the early birds. 10pm-2am. Free.
SATURDAY
Heartworks: Night Visions Eye Candy is at the ICE BOX space (1400 N. American St). Saturday features an evening of experimental multi-media, innovative video art by Alex Bag and photography by Patterson Beckwith in collaboration with filmmaker Josh Callaghan and other video art; plus an exhibition of contemporary art by more than 70 artists. Again, all proceeds benefirt the Mazzoni Center, a health center focused on the specific needs of the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. 6pm. $10. Click here for more info and to buy tickets.
It’s record store day and so you should get out there and hit up some of the excellent record shops that Philly has. While you are shopping, make sure to stop at AKA Records. They’ve got a great lil party going on featuring a Park the Van Records Showcase with Pepi Ginsberg, Rick Flom (National Eye), Brian Ashby (The Teeth), Nick & Tom (The Spinto Band) playing from 1:30pm-3pm. DJs Julia Factorial and DJ Democracy spin from 5pm-7pm. Then, at 7pm, Home Blitz are gonna rock the place. Free. More info here.

The Barbary has The Bounce with Emil and Bo Bliz. 10pm. $5.
The Circle of Hope has a little Dischord invasion with Antelope, Medications and Neal Cassady. 8pm. All Ages.
The Khyber has Javelina, Jail, and The Claw. 9pm. $8.
Meanwhile, Upstairs at the Khyber has another drunken England Belongs to Twee extravaganza! Me (Labuda) and Mike McKee bring you theee finest in indiepop and streetpunk. Along the way we throw in some reggae and whatever else is moving us at the moment. And beer-lots and lots of beer. I guess Steven Wells won’t be there. Pity. 9pm. Free.
SUNDAY
The Khyber has a pretty excellent show for a Sunday night - Greyhounds, Jotto, and Buses. The Jotto ep is deeeeece! 8pm. Free.
Not to be outdone, Johnny Brenda’s has a pretty great show too - The Constantines, and the excellent Oakley Hall. 8pm. $10/$12.
