Last night was the Phil’s first night game of the season. I was excited to sample all of the new vegan/vegetarian food options at the game. It was a sell out crowd at Citizens Bank Park and things were absolutely out of control crazy before I even got into the ballpark.
I took I95 to Broad Street only to be denied access to Broad by Philly’s Finest blocking the street. So, uh, thanks cops for making me miss the first pitch. Then we had to drive around to look for another way into the parking lot. You’d think that they would have the lots clearly marked but, no, that would be too obvious. Finally, we found a parking spot and we were on our way.
I was pretty psyched because I love (vegetarian) Dollar Dog Night and I was still amped about Hans’ vegetarian crab cake sandwich posting. Plus, I was hungry.
Sadly, by the time we made it to a hot dog concession stand, they were out of veggie dogs. Strike one.
No matter, I pushed onward to Planet Hoagie in order to dine on the fabled vegetarian crab cake. Too bad that they were out of vegetarian crab cakes…strike two.
Undaunted, I forged ahead - this time to Rick’s Steaks - to try to get a veggie cheesesteak. Yes! They had ‘em. I decided to try the new-for-this-season fake chicken cheesesteak (pictured above).
It was actually decent enough that I forgot about the other food that I had wanted to try. Even though I didn’t get to sampled every single vegetarian option at the park, I was happy and my belly was full. I’m going to guess that they ran out of certain foods because people were ordering and eating them - and that’s a good thing. More sales lead to more vegetarian and vegan options.
Hopefully the next Phillies game that I attend won’t be a sell out and I’ll be able to fulfill my dream of eating one of every vegetarian/vegan option at the park and then puking everywhere.
