See, this is what I’ve been talking about. There are soooooo many things to do this weekend that it’s going to be really hard to pick where you wanna go. Friday night alone is enough to my my head explode.
FRIDAY
OK, this is real weird and real real cool - The Levon Helm Band is playing the Electric Factory and Dr. Dog are opening. Labuda Fun Fact: Juston, the drummer from Dr. Dog grew up in the house behind the house I grew up in. He’s a really good skateboarder. 8:30pm. $19.68-$45.
Blogrockers unite at Johnny Brenda’s for the so-hyped-that-it’s-sold out Yeasayer, MGMT, and Fang Island show. Confession: I ain’t never heard none of these bands. 8pm. SOLD OUT.
If you prefer the garage rockin’ sounds then you are lucky. Tonight you’ve got two different options…

First off, head to Tritone and get Positively Sick on South Street with Dirty Tactics, The Filthy 42’s, and Doomed To Obscurity. 10pm.
Then go see Mondo Topless, The Brimstones, DJ Gallows & Thee Chief Inspector at The M-Room. 9pm.
Fans of weirdo rap can go to the North Star and be baffled by Leslie & The Ly’s, MC Digga (he’s HUGE in Germany!), and Sgt. Sass. 9pm. $10.
Punx have it pretty great on Friday night, too.
First head to Disgraceland (email andy@r5productions.com for directions because W.W.D.I.S.(S)! rules apply) for a serious rager. Direct Control are playing their first Philly show in over 2 years. Joining them to bring the chaos are Wasted Time (maybe Andy Nelson from Paint It Black’s favorite 7″ of 2007, totally ripping hardcore from RVA!), Brain Handle (Pittsburgh’s reigning kings of raging weirdo hardcore. Will John Robinson make it to the show??) and, drum roll please, Cheap Tragedies (a band from Cleveland featuring the legendary Tony Erba!!) All Ages $6-8 Sliding Scale This Show Must End By 10pm So Be Punk-tual!
Then head to the frat party of the century…

at Pi Lam with Clockcleaner, the Lame Drivers, and Home Blitz. The last time I hung out with John Sharkey in a frat house, bad bad bad things happened. Clockcleaner are seriously the illest. This show is going to rage so hard. 9pm. $8.
Or, if yr. more into dancing Upstairs at the Khyber has another installment of the ever excellent And Dim Sum presents - Spin The Bottle with Gordon Bombay, M Dot, and The Asian Ranger. 9pm. Free.
The Barbary has The Turnaround Vs. Immediate with Guest DJ Spank Rock. Weird line up, no? 10pm-2am. $7.
Fluid has another crazy Click party with Dave P and Adam Sparkles. 10pm-2am.

Finally, Medusa Lounge has The Erotique Robotique Valentine’s Disco with Mike Tee and Billy W. bringing the love with their monthly disco bonanza. 10pm-2am. Free.
SATURDAY
The Troc has a total head scratcher - the Paul Green School of Rock All Stars featuring Gibby Haynes playing the music of Butthole Surfers with Paths 2 Glory. All Ages. 7pm. $14/$16.
Emil & Bo Bliz bring their Bounce party back to The Barbary. $5.
Oh dude, here’s what looks to be a really really off the charts good show at Johnny Brendas - Pissed Jeans, Food For Animals, and Mi Ami. It’s been noted in FV before that we love the PJ’s. It’s kinda been noted that FFA are sick, but trust me - forget avant-art school hip-hop, the FFA record is going to end up as one of the best hip-hop records of the year. IDM meets OutKast meets a pound and a half of really good chron, man. And Mi Ami, oh man, ex Black Eyes guys busting out weirdo organic dance music on the dub and techno and maybe kinda Afro-beat tip. I’m absolutely loving it. Mi Ami’s brand new African Rhythms 12″ (released on Matt from Pissed Jean’s totally great White Denim record label) should be available at the show. Buy two and rock doubles. 8pm.$8/$10.

Punx wanna head to The Khyber because it’s punk rockin’ downstairs and up all night long. Downstairs, the Dead City Psychos are playing a reunion show with The Ray Gradys, and The Blessed Muthas. 9pm. $8.
Upstairs at the Khyber has yet another awesome England Belongs to Twee - where McKee and I bring you working class oi! anthems vs. indie-pop classics. This month we’ve enlisted Julia Factorial back into the Barmy Army for a guest DJ spot. This is always a good time, man. Real horror show like. 9pm. Free.
SUNDAY
The Fire has a Radiohead Tribute Night with cover bands. Normally, we’d be all whatevz but 1. Hans FV loves Radiohead 2. Labuda loves at least one dude in a band that is playing (uh, Josh Alvarez from Hey Angel - be my Valentine?) 8pm.
Ye olde Khyber has reAction - a benefit for Action AIDS featuring Scary Monster, Papertrees, Dan Malloy, and Rarebirds. Plus, songs between sets by John Vettese. Door prizes throughout the evening. 8pm. $8. Worthy causes like this need your attendance, kids.
Remember, send all tips and listings to us.
