I’ve stated on here in that past that when I was growing up all South Jersey in the ’80’s I was a dorky thrash metal dirtbag. Somehow, thrash (and skateboarding) led me to punk rock and hardcore and, once I discovered that stuff, I quickly dismissed all things metal as stupid and all things punk as somehow intelligent. Basically, right when death metal was gaining ground in the thrash community, I skipped from Crossover Hardcore Punk Fan to Hardcore Kid and never looked back.
Years have changed and opinions have mellowed. I’ve come full circle and I’m man enough to admit that I still have love for some heavy metal bands. One cool thing about the internet is that it allows me instant access to check out new bands and bands that I never bothered to check out when I was a youngin.
With that in mind, I’d like to recommend a new blog that I’ve been reading - Metal Inquisition! It’s a reaaaaaaally fun and funny look at the past and present state of heavy metal and all of its various / bizarre sub-genres.
The absolute best part about the blog is that Metal Inquisition is funny as hell. You can tell that they love the subject matter that they are covering. At the same time, you can tell that they know how absolutely unintentionally hilarious heavy metal can be. They make fun of everything. What other blog is going to bring you entries about a member of Anthrax’s watchmaking business or an article making fun of the singer of Testament’s hairstyle?
Here’s to hoping that they trash more bands that I used to love and introduce me to more bands/genres that I’ve never even heard of.
As a tribute to the metal gods over at Metal Inquisition, I give you Death live October 23, 1988, at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia, during a show with Raven, Dark Angel, Faith Or Fear and Forbidden (which was recorded/filmed and later released as part of the Ultimate Revenge II video on the Combat record label).
