Barbary Reopens ‘For the Kids, By the Kids”

November 9th, 2007 by Labuda · No Comments

John Redden (and some silent partners) bought the Barbary in Fishtown and it just re-opened the other night. For what we’ve heard, the place is going to be really sweet and the DJ booth/soundsystem are going to be next level.

The whole deal’s got me wondering if other bars/clubs/lounges are a bit worried, since John’s Socket and Hands & Knees parties were legendarily popular. I think that maybe they should be…

The Inquirer profiled John and the new place and the article contains what I am going to say is pretty much thee quote of the year from John’s twin sister Danielle Redden:

“In my ideal world, the club would be a worker-owned syndicate where profit would go to support the abolition of the prison system and fund radical social movements.”

A M A Z I N G ! ! ! !
