Some band i never heard of called Excepter exempts themselves from playing Philly…

November 2nd, 2007 by Hans · 17 Comments

And no one really gives a shit. But it is very funny.
Maybe they are just afraid of getting capped?
Apparently they made a post on the internerd this morning exclaiming to all that they are banning themselves from our fair city. Here is an excerpt:

“We’ve had troubles with Philly promoters before thinking they can switch things around as they see fit without concern for the artists, supposed scene saints R5 not excepted. We regard this lack of a respect as a Philadelphian problem and intend to avoid your city until you guys get your act together.”

Of course our boy and big time Philly promoter Sean Agnew of R5 Productions had to respond in honorable Philly fashion. hit the jump to read both statements.

From Excepter:

The Philadelphian Problem
With one week’s notice for a show that had been planned for months, promoter Alexis/Flying V cancelled Excepter’s appearance due to “lack of attendance and sound system.” I guess a failed Magik Markers show a few days prior had soured her on standing by her word for another weirdo cult act.

We’ve had troubles with Philly promoters before thinking they can switch things around as they see fit without concern for the artists, supposed scene saints R5 not excepted. We regard this lack of a respect as a Philadelphian problem and intend to avoid your city until you guys get your act together.

The good folks at Inciting did their best to rebook the show, but given the high financial, physical, temporal and cosmic cost of putting on a travelling Excepter performance, we regret having to leave our machines and voices silent this weekend.

Please note it is often easier for interested fans to travel to see us, rather than the other way around. You will find New York a friendly city, open to visitors, no matter how avant-garde.

From R5 Productions:

Dear Whiny-Crying-Pussy Babies -
What did we ever do to you ? As far as I can recall we booked (and paid you well) on a SOLD OUT show with Wolf Eyes and Vampire Belt. Also I remember quite well how you guys bitched and complained about your time slot (you were playing second). You were right - we should have put you on much later, like after Wolf Eyes’ were finished with their set. I am sure tons of people would have stuck around to see your excellent trailblazing set !
I am sure the entire City of Philadelphia is now in mourning, for we will never be blessed by the almighty Excepter’s presence again. I am sure every major media outlet is now contacting you over this new “Philadelphia Ban” as it is effecting THOUSANDS of Excepter fans in the 215.

It’s weird because working in Philadelphia record stores for over 7 years - I never once sold an Excepter album. Strange..Huh ?

I wish your band the best of luck - hopefully our fair city of Philadelphia can somehow get pass this momentous proclamation and somehow find a way to move on with our daily lives.

Signed,
Sean C Agnew
Supposed Patron Scene Saint of R5

Gotta love this town.
