Good morning vampires it’s been a slow  few weeks and we have no real excuses. I figured i’d enliven your monday morning with a few photos from our Chikara Pro Lucha Libre wrestling adventure. As a few people suspected this was indeed not real mexican wrestling. I didn’t see a single latino (looking) person in attendance. And as far as we could tell there was only one definite Puerto Rican dude on the “Mexican” team. He was the cheetah and had a sweet PR tattoo. This event takes place at the New  Alahambra  Arena, which is the old fabled ECW arena. I was surpirsed at how clean and well lit the arena was. It was a whopping 15 bucks to get in the door but there were plenty of ringside seats, cheap beers at only $3 and soda was only $1.  Our crew (minus me) was already a bit lit before we even got there but they were totally stoked on the cheap beers. Our boy K was flirting with the owner trying to talk up his gay band (jotto) and get them on a bill. I think he got a few free drinks too. He also got yelled at for using foul language. Apparently this is a family event! There were a few kids in attendance and the action was definitely not nearly as violent as ECW or even the currently super lame popular pro wrestling roid rage conferences. The costumes were brilliant ith characters like fucking ICE CREAM!!, and The Olsenz and the Army Ants. Plenty of vieled and not so vieled homoeroticism and super staged rivalries where you could actually see the wrestlers almost laughing. I even got singled out by the dude in the pink and blue unitard when i was rooting for him! He pointed at me and yelled “who the hell (fuck?) do you think you are!” I loved it! The whole event was so hilarious on so many levels i can’t really say anything bad about it at all. It was definitely one of the best saturday nights i’ve had in a looonnnnnnnng time.

The Chikara Pro season finale is on November 18th and we’re hoping a few more FVers will come out this time. We know the ticket price is a bit high at $15 but it is totally worth the price of admission.
