This is part of a new series i’m going to do because i read, see, buy, and listen to a lot of shit every week / month but i’m too lazy and too distracted to sit and write something about each thing cohesively. Now i will give you only the info you need to know on the short. Time is money, money is not time, life is short, um something something. In this review i will quickly tell you about two films: The Darjeeling Limited and Control. 2 video games both for the Xbox 360: Halo 3 and The Orange Box. And 1 “album” Radiohead, In Rainbows.

The Darjeeling Limited:B-

This of course is a Wes Anderson movie so it looks like what you expect it to look like and sounds like what you expect it to sound like. It is very beautiful and detailed in his normal style but this time they are in India so everything takes on that Slant. In my head i was constantly comparing it to The Life Aquatic which i thought sucked so i think that made me like this movie more than i would otherwise. There was a lot more character development in this film than the last. All 3 main characters are likable enough for me and the movie kept my interest. Although it should have ended 20 minutes earlier than it did. If you like Wes Anderson in general you will not be horribly disappointed. If you don’t like him you shouldn’t even be reading this. I can’t wait till Louis Vuitton starts selling the luggage he designed for this film.

Control: B+

This is a movie i got to see in advance and for free (CREAM) but i still would have paid to see it when it came out. It’s about the rise and fall of Ian Curtis of Joy Division without all the mythology and from his wife Debbie’s point of view. It’s shot in black and white and makes you get into the time period. The music is on point and even the live stuff sounds very authentic. The characters are mostly believable especially Tony Wilson and the manager dude who’s name i’ve forgotten. Basically this shows that when you’re young you do stupid shit. Especially when you do something retarded like marry someone you’re not actually in love with and have a baby for no reason except that you feel like having a baby. Take all that and combine it nailing a super hot foreign broad that’s not your wife, sudden fame, the late 70’s in Britain, late diagnosis of epilepsy and you have a recipe for disaster and of course the ultimate sad ending. I love Joy Division and it was refreshing to see a more realistic depiction of the history of what happened to Ian and Joy Division. But shit if someone had to die in order for New Order to come about, so be it. p.s. Ian’s wife was played by the fucking pre-cog from minority report.

Halo 3 (xbox360):

Everyone with a 360 should and probably does own this game by now and they know enough about it from all the other sources in the world. My take on it is that i suck balls at the multiplayer aspect and i almost feel that it’s impossible to get any better at it because i’m constantly dying. The campaign was a serious disappointment in my eyes and just straight up boring mixed with totally impossibly hard parts. Playing the campagin on co-op however is very fun. And MP is still fun for me even though i suck as long as i have a cohesive and communicating team. Hopefully my pals will continue to let me play with them.

The Orange Box (xbox360):

Being a gaming n00b i have no experience with the Half life portions of this game. I can’t even tell you the name of all 5 games in this box because the naming conventions are confusing. All i know is there’s like 3 games that are Half Life incarnations, Portal and Team Fortress 2. I didn’t even really touch any of the Half life shit because i haven’t had time. But the reason i bought this game was for TF2 and Portal. And let me tell you they do not disappoint. I played the shit out of Portal and loved every second of it. Portal is a total mindfuck maze / puzzle game that i can’t even describe if i had to. But imagine MC Escher making a video game and asking Radiohead and George Orwell help write the story and music. TF2 is the class based mutliplayer game in this box. I really liked the few minutes i played on launch night but was bogged down by opening night lag. Supposedly all that has been worked out and according to Steve T. this is the best MP game for the time being. He claims it’s more fun than Halo 3. So i’m stoked to get more into it.

Radiohead, In Rainbows:

So we all know Radiohead is currently label-less and have released their new album as a download from their website and you pay what you want for it. We got it and i have to say i’m not psyched about it. I am a fucking huge Radiohead fan. I even drove to Toronto and back in 24 hours to see them once. Don’t get me wrong. this record or folder of files is good but it’s not Radiohead good. At least half of these songs sound like the were written and recorded in one day. It’s as if they didn’t put nearly as much thought into it compared to Hail to the thief. The version of “videotape” is god awful in my opinion compared to the In The Basement acoustic version. However there are a few gems including and especially the finally properly recorded ” nude”.

ok that’s it. I hope you’ve enjoyed this first iteration of the lazy review. Because if you haven’t you can’t say i didn’t warn you. Friggin crybabies.
