Philly Weekend Picks!

September 14th, 2007 by Labuda · 1 Comment

Oh man! I’m kind of beat up and tired from the excellent Cola Freaks, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Clockcleaner, Pissed Jeans show that I went to last night.  It was a great way to start what is going to be a excellent weekend.  Here are some picks, yo

FRIDAY:

Tritone has A Sunny Day In Glasgow and like 4 other bands.  I kinda love A Sunny Day In Glasgow.  I’m sure it costs some cream but I don’t know how much.  9:30 pm 21+

His Name Is Alive are playing the Chapel area of the First Unitarian Church.  I gotta be honest, I haven’t heard one song from this dude since like 1996 but he was nice in 1996 so I’m sure he’d probably still good, right? All Ages. 8pm. $10.

Top blingdog Billy Werner & Mike T. (or is it Tee now?!) are busting out with their new party - Robotique at the Medusa Lounge.  Expect electronic funk bangers, electro house squelchers, and hopefuly some crazy tekfunk madness. 10pm - 2am. Free.

Finally, Skipmode’s wrist is healed and he is back to crazy orbits and clicks and flare skratches at the Illvibe Upstairs at the Khyber.  Expect bass and classic hip-hop and sick sick sick DJ skills. 9pm. Free

SATURDAY:

The Chapel area of the First Unitarian Church has Marissa Nadler and Castanets. It’s sold out so good luck on that one, young.

The M Room has Roll Call! with Emynd, Bo Bliz and Caps & Jones. 9pm. $5 on the list.

England Belongs To Twee returns to Upstairs at the Khyber.  Once again, co-conspirator Labuda leaves Mike McKee hanging so Mckee hooks it up with special guest DJ - Doug Wallen! Pop gems vs. backstreet punk bangers.  It’s the heavenly option9pm. Free.

Or stumble drunk to St. Monica’s Parrish (16th and Shunk) for that I think is the third installment of Mission 300!  Yep, the all you can bowl, all you can drink, all you can eat soft pretzels extravaganza is back with DJs Oh Murder! Inc and the Bleached Black dudes. Even the PW likes this jawn. 10pm-3am, door closes at 12. $10/$15.  God save Jeff Ziga.

SUNDAY:

Go to Sal’s and do some drunken karaoke with your lovely host Sara Sherr. 9pm. Free.

The Black Lips are playing the Khyb.  This show is kind of waaaaay expensive for a garage rock band but whatevz - they are on Vice now so I guess that demands top dollar. Supposedly the new album is deece. 8pm. $14/$15
