Current ‘Best Band In Philadelphia’ Featured in the Inquirer!

photo by manuel dominguez jr Clockcleaner are maybe going to be working at coffeeshops five years from now (jokes!) but for right now they are on fire and are easily one of the most exciting bands in the city. They’ve got a new record coming out on Load later this month called Babylon Rules. Next Thursday they are playing what looks like it could be one of the best shows of the year at the U.Church with Denmark’s Cola Freaks, Australia’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring and the ever excellent and crushing Pissed Jeans. In advance of these two things, A.D. Amorosi wrote about Clockcleaner in today’s Inquirer. Crazy! Now my grandma will even know about how big a bunch of jerks they are.

As an added Friday bonus, I submit to you this story as told by Sharkey (complete with crazy answering maching message) and, of course, the Fun Vampires video interview with Sharkey.

For real, you’d be a fool not to go to the Pissed Jeans, Clockcleaner, ECR, Cola Freaks show. Here are some mp3s jacked from the R5 site to convince you…
September 13th 7:30pm

At The First Unitarian Church 2125 Chestnut Street (22nd and Chestnut Streets)
Philadelphia, PA
$8 / All Ages

Pissed Jeans
Pissed Jeans are like OUR Black Flag. Sort of. But c’mon, snotty and punk and super rocking. Pounding sludgy garage rock scuzz, with buried vocals. Philadelphia. Sub Pop Records
Sound Clip :
1) I’ve Still Got You (ice cream) | 2) I’m Sick | 3) People Person

Clockcleaner
Our own Maximum Rock & Roll cover boys (and girls!). Demented and manic, but song oriented with some KILLER riffs. Clockcleaner could easily have existed right there between the God Bullies, Halo Of Flies, Lubricated Goat, King Snake Roost and all the rest of during the heyday of Am-Rep. The record starts off with some weirdly eighties metal riffing, like the intro to some Ratt song, before the whiney Jello like vocals kick in, and the whole thing lurches into action with plenty of Buttholes tribal pound, Jesus Lizard groove and a decade’s (the nineties) worth of Amphetamine fueled fury. Plus some amazing song titles (”Missing Dick”, “Gentle Swastika”, “Interview With A Black Man”, “Blood Driver”) and some problematic poop smeared cover art. New LP out soon on Load Records.
Sound Clips :
1) In The Shit | 2) Missing Dick | 3) Hands Are For Holding

Eddy Current Suppression Ring
Strap early Saints and Wire to the bones of X, have ‘em slice up the ??s songbook and you’re close to what ECSR sounds like. A four-piece w/ no apparent pretentions whatsoever, they’ve nailed a sound which no one in living memory has managed to perfect south of the equator. From Australia !
Sound Clips :
1) Get Up Morning | 2) Precious Rose

Cola Freaks
From Arhus, Denmark. Totally classic sounding Danish KBD punk/hardcore. Catchy songs with snotty aditude.
