Being the Pizza Nazi that I am, a trip to the Jersey Shore is never complete with out a stop at Ocean City’s “World Famous” Mack and Manco Pizza. After a full day of frying my skin and being pummeled by Dirty Jerz’s righteous waves nothing quite caps a trip to the shore better than scarfing down one (or two or three) of my favorite slices. Among the throngs of prowling teenagers, you’re bound to find one of three locations along the boardwalk. With their seemingly endless lines its difficult to miss. While customers wait, pizza dough twirls in the air as they freshly prepare each pie.

Mack and Manco’s combination of crispy hand-tossed crust, not-too-sweet sauce and copious amounts of cheese is quite frankly unstoppable. If you are fortunate enough to get your sweaty hands on a whole pie, your taste buds better be prepared to get their socks rocked off! On top of that: these Motherfuckers are fast! They crank these pies out one after another. You’ll be burning the skin off the top of you mouth in no time. If I haven’t convinced you enough, maybe the Best of Philly plaques will…remember this is New Jersey. Nothing beats the joy of devouring pizza on the boardwalk while you gaze off into the Atlantic.

FYI: The Mack and Manco 9th St. location is open year round so you can even enjoy your pizza on a snow-covered boardwalk. Remember to smuggle your booze because OC is a completely dry town!
Quick History lesson: Mack and Manco’s opened their first pizza parlor at 918 Boardwalk in the summer of 1956. A few years later they opened another store at 7th Street and the Boardwalk. Mr. Mack had three sons-Dominic, Vince and Joseph and they expanded their business to the Wildwood and Atlantic City boardwalks. Vincent Manco’s son Frank and his wife Kay continued to operate the original Ocean City locations, and opened a third store at 12th Street in the late ’80’s.
Steve T.’s Top 5 Pizza Picks:

2. Alex’s Pizzeria (Roxborough, PA)
3. Pica’s (Upper Darby, PA)
4. Mack and Manco Pizza

Ready! Set! Pizza!

NYC vs. Philly pizza face-off!!! Wassup Domino’s commercial….
jeff // Aug 7, 2007 at 9:35 am
Central Jerz has got some good pizza. NYC pizza does suck. Sciorentino’s Pizza ,when it was in Perth Amboy, had awesome square pies.
steve t. // Aug 7, 2007 at 9:48 am
I think we should somehow compile a top 40 list for the tri-state area and figure out a rating system, but we’ll have to cram the NYC pizza somewhere at the bottom….its obviously inferior! They even tried to invade Philly with NYPD Pizza! Get that crap out of here!!!

First off I went to Pomodoros in the heart of soho at Mulberry and Spring Street. I ordered 1 vodka slice and after finishing it wanted another. I ordered a second slice and was given a 3rd for free…both fresh out of the oven. DAmn was that good.
The easiest way to settle this debate is to look at the kings of pizza eating…the ninja turtles. Do you see them living in NJ or PA? No.
I take it that ends the dispute…
K // Aug 7, 2007 at 11:21 am
Your going to look to a toxic turtle for pizza advice? Dont get me wrong, if your trying to take some self defense classes go for it, but im going to keep listening to other humans.
RankoreREX pizza SEX // Aug 7, 2007 at 11:23 am
Not to mention “Ninja Pizza” is probably the best pizza place because its the “home of the nice slice” and has ninjas serving pizza.

art vandelay // Aug 7, 2007 at 12:46 pm
of course you philly turdz are gonna say NYC pizza sux, and a lot of it does, but there’s a lot of shit pizza in philly too. the best pizza in NY is in the bronx and there’s two unreal shops in money earnin’ mt. vernon, especially johnny’s right off gramatan ave. Patsy’s, Luzzo’s, and Joe’s in NYC will top anything in philly, especially since Lombardi’s in philly closed. “youz guyses” continue to eat your greasy, salty, and thick slices and think it’s good.

louie and ernies in the bronx is reality.

Does anyone remember Glen Macnow’s dreaded PIZZA PALOOZA? What a debacle!
ob // Aug 7, 2007 at 8:31 pm
Mack and Manco’s couldn’t make more money even if they had a press printing 100 dollar bills instead of a pizza oven.

So who here is honored as a “Pizza Wolf”? From what I understand, to earn the title “Pizza Wolf” you must eat an entire pie by yourself…
steve t. // Aug 10, 2007 at 10:58 am
and by the way…I would shit myself inside out if I ate of those Japizza’s that Jeff just shared with us!
