As a youngin’ I was skeptical about the clumsy, bobble-headed “Pizza Time Players” at my local Chuck E. Cheese Crappy Pizza Joint. Even at the tender age of 8 I had a sense that something was awry. Truth be told, that mouse made me uneasy. Little did I know, the only thing that stood between “uneasy” and “sheer terror” was the fact that there were no Showbiz Pizza places in my town. If there were, I would have been subject to the likes of these guys (video after the jump):
(I’m not the über-dork I wish I was, and am therefore not the first person on the interwebz to write poorly about post this clip.)
Throughout most of the 80’s, the original Rockafire Explosion scared the shit out of little kids everywhere performed songs with titles such as, “Rubber Biscuit” and “The Curly Shuffle”. Recently, some charming yokel from Florida decided to reprogram these monsters to belt out “Ms. New Booty” by country-rapper Bubba Sparxx. Though he may be bastardizing the fond childhood memories of so many twenty-somethings out there, I cannot help but marvel at the absolute train-wreck appeal of this clip. Creepy, crusty old animatronics in people clothes + silly country rap = a winning combination.

Growing up in Jersey we had Razz Ma Tazz and Chuck E Cheese. Razz’s animatronic show was pretty creepy too. The Last time I was there, was probably after going to see TMNT in the 90’s . I think it closed shortly after that and was reopened as Red Robin, which was short-lived.

Its too bad.. Chuck E. Cheese ultimately ended up buying Showbiz Pizza just before they went under and now there are only a few novelty-ish sort of placed who still have the Rockafire animatronics. I would have loved to have seen those guys in action.

Does anybody remember the Christian undertones that they ever so slightly brainwashed us with at Chuck E. Cheese? Creepy. And what the fuck…I hated how you always needed about 10,000 tickets to get a dope prize…it was impossible! I can picture myself now as I turn to my parents: “Shit dad! That is a ton of fuckin’ tickets!!!”

we had Circus Towne which was way better than chuck e cheese.
Hans // Aug 3, 2007 at 10:09 am
upon further review that video is even more awesome than i previously thought.

circus towne was dope. they had that little house/maze… i remember going through there at some point when i was old and thinking (1) i’m going for get stuck in this fucking thing and (2) fire trap.
… and hell yeah on the tickets and the prizes. you would play some thing and be like “wow! i got 100 tickets!!!” and that would get you one of those plastic spider rings….

ah, bells and whistles to mask the taste of crap pizza. i grew up in NY eating good pizza in pizza shops with a counter and 3-4 stools…maybe a couple tables if you’re lucky. none of this other horseshit.

Wikipedia says that they named him after Fats Domino. Interesting.
