Oh, the weekend is here. Whatever shall you do? How about some of these fun thangs…
FRIDAY
Built to Spill are playing at the TLA Filmore thing but that shit is like $20. Still, it’s better then going to see the Mooney Suzuki so I won’t even mention where they are playing.
It’s pretty much a night to go out and dance. You get to chose from:
- Making Time with a live set from Simian Mobile Disco. Plus resident DJs Dave P, Dave Pak, Mike Z, the Rock Tits DJs, Pink Skull, Adam Sparkles, JDH, and Broadzilla DJs. I think that it’s also a Justice record release party. Pure nightclub. 9pm-3:30am. $16.
- The Yah Mos Def and Bamboo Shoots with DJs Oh Murder! Inc and Super Todd Bros. at Sal’s. Free. 9pm.
- White Ts and White Belts with the dudes Emynd and Bo Bliz plus Dan the Swede. The Arts Garage. 12am-4am. $10 with FREE BEER ALL NIGHT.
SATURDAY
Honestly, In my esteemed opinion there isn’t a lot to choose from tonight. I’d recommend heading over to Tritone to check out Soft People + Whales and Cops. 10pm. $5.
Lucero are playing the first of a two night stand type of show at the North Star Bar with Josh Olmstead and the excellent Bitter Bitter Weeks. They are also playing the N Star on Sunday but with different openers. 9pm. $12. Um, here is a pic of John Lucero (who is rad but not affiliated with this bad).
Johnny Brenda’s has the SORTED! danceparty with special live guests Fujiya & Miyagi and Project Jenny, Project Jan. It’s $10 in advance and $12 on the day of, boss.
Sunday
Sara Sherr hosts Karaoke That Doesn’t Suck at the El Bar. 9:30pm-1:30am. Free.
And, finally, if you feel like getting your metalcore on, The Troc hosts the Brotherly Shove Festival (which has actually been going on since the 4th of July) with A Life Once Lost, Turmoil (Hi, Hodges!), The Minor Times, Starkweather (yes!) and a million other bands that sound like raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!!!!!!!
