Dear Fun Vampires,
It’s too hot in my room and I need to get out and do something but I don’t know what to go to. Can you help?
Love,
Melty

Never fear, Melty. We’ve got your Weekend Picks!

FRIDAY

Attn: All you punks and all you Teds, National Fronts and natty dreads, mods, rockers, hippies and skinheads - keep on fightin’ til you’re dead. I mean it! All of you lads and lasses need to know that there is a Scooter Rally in town this weekend. Friday night starts things off proper at The Manhattan Room with DJs Bettie and Davey and DJ Carryus and DJ Version Girl spin reggae, rocksteady, ska and soul favorities. Plus, Yards drink specials

That same night, across town, the WestWax Collective (re)forms like Voltron with MakeOut City. We’re talking electro, funk, house, hip hop, disco, italo, reggae and everything in between with NINE different DJs @ PhilafunkLive, 8 N. Preston (btw 40th and 41st off Market 40th and Market El stop). $5, BYOB

SATURDAY

Calling all Weirdbeards: Johnny Brenda’s has a fine show featuring Bardo Pond and Avarus and a band called…..Manbeard! $8.

More Vespa and Lambretta action at The Bubble House where the kids are having an oldies/soul dance party with The Get Back! Plus, more Yards drink specials and some sort of raffle to win some mod-tastic prizes.

Sugartown has a fine show with Rarebirds, Panda Riot, She Keeps Bees, and Darling Arms + DJs Darshana and Chetana. Tritone $7.

My pick of the weekend is Damn You All to Hell! - a Planet Of The Apes themed one off party at Sal’s. The Seclusiasis crew are bringing in Mr. Andersonic (Debassed, Booty Bar) down from NYC to unleash his live booty bass/ghettotech set on Philly. Plus, you’ve got Owen Howard (Funkshun) and Jason Carr (Broketronica, Funkshun, Inciting) and the bol Starkey will be holding it down for the Seclusiasis dudes.

After that, head up to my part of town and get down with the Illvibe Collective at their weekly late night warehouse jam called saturday nite The Duplex at the Arts Garage! $5 (ladies free before 11pm!)

Sunday

Johnny Brenda’s has another fine show with Awesome Color, Birds of Maya, Empty Shapes, Plus the Rocktits DJs guys. $8.
