Cacia’s Bakery + Italiano’s Water ice, a match made in heaven

img_0936.jpg
Those of us that live and work in South Philly all have our favorite places to get our eat on. There are so many amazing little places and everyone has their special spots. Today i’ll share with you 2 of my absolutely most favorite places that are not only great but go great together. Added bonus is that both places are a joy for vegans and vegetarians as well. Hit the jump for lots of pics and info.

First Head on down to Cacia’s Bakery at 16th and Ritner. You’ll notice all the double parked cars, don’t worry ’bout nothin. Just park where you can and head on in. Cacia’s is in a normal Rowhome. Inside is what is not so normal. There is a huge and i mean at least 20 foot long brick oven in the back where they make all sorts of baked items. Rolls, strombolis, hot dog buns. But we’re here for pizza.

Your options are the Tomato Pie, the Red Pie (plain cheese), White, Spinach, Broccoli, and Pizazz (cheese, tomato, peppers). The prices can’t be beat either.

My personal favorites are the white and the broccoli. There’s no warming it up either, this is just like Italy, which i totally love. The lady’s behind the counter are pleasant but stern trying to keep the constant flow of customers quickly in and out of the super tiny store front. You’ll fall in love with the place even before you taste the goods. img_0944.jpg

My Navy Yard crüe usually eats our pizza out front, talk about the neighborhood, shoot the breeze, and then onto our next stop, Italiano’s.

Check and that sign and read it well. You better believe South Philly is where all these other copy cats got this from. The home of Gelati, Italiano’s is on 12th and Shunk. Only a few blocks away from Cacia’s. Now that all that Pizza is in your belly you’ll want something to wash it down, especially since Cacia’s only sells what they make and that means NO DRINKS.

My personaly favorites at Italiano’s are as follows in order. 1. Italiano coffee gelati. This is Amaretto water ice and coffee ice cream! Perfect, and i mean absolutely perfect on a summer’s day. 2. Root beer water ice with Vanilla ice cream gelati. A classic. A large gelati will only set you back $3.75 and that large is seriously big, get ready for the ultimate brain freeze.

My camera battery died here of course and unfortunatley had to switch to ye olde cameraphone.

Italiano’s is only blocks away from Citizen’s Bank Park, home of the Phillies so it’s great to hit there before or after a game.

Well that wraps up this quick trip. Let us know if you have any awesome spots in Philly you love to hit up and combine that people should know about.
